The Story of Gloria’s

Tucked into a cozy corner of Wilshire Blvd, Petit Grain Boulangerie is more than just a bakery—it’s a culinary ritual, a sensory invitation, and a labor of dedication.. Founded by Pastry Chefs, Clémence de Lutz and Tony Hernandez, Petit Grain brings the buttery heart of France and the soulful touch of Mexico into every fold and crumb.

Clémence, born in Paris, is something of a local legend. Before opening Petit Grain, she taught at a beloved pastry school in Santa Monica, shaping a generation of local bakers with her blend of technical precision and boundless warmth. Her presence is magnetic, the kind of hospitality that feels both elevated and deeply personal.

Petit Grain is family collaborative: her daughter Olivia is part of the heartbeat of Petit Grain, integral to its daily rhythm. And Pepper, the founding team member, brings connection with guests and operational support to the team . Together, they radiate a sense of belonging and purpose—you feel it the moment you walk through the door.

Tony, who hails from Veracruz, crafts bread with both precision and soul, balancing traditional French technique with ingredients and influences rooted in Mexican culture. Their sourcing is intentional: flour is locally milled, and produce comes fresh from the Santa Monica farmers market.

Even the name—Petit Grain—is layered. It honors French baking tradition while nodding to Mexican roots: “petitgrain” refers to the essential oil of the bitter orange tree, a staple in Veracruz cuisine.

Why We Love Petitgrain

At Civil, we believe coffee is culture. And Petit Grain lives that out. Featuring our La Unión MX espresso alongside their exceptional viennoiserie is a pairing we’re incredibly proud of. It’s not just about flavor—it’s about values: family, community, and the beauty of everyday rituals done with excellence.

Alex’s Tip:
Order the heirloom corn Masienda concha and rum infused Pains Aux Raisins. Savor both back to back.
